Today I’m thankful for a chat I had with my father this evening. The nursing home is having more tests run on Mom, to determine why she seems so out of it these days. His visits haven’t been very pleasant, but he keeps going.
He spoke to a woman from his church, who comes to deliver communion once a week. Dad told her what was going on, and she said that God loved them both, and this was simply a cross he had to bear. When I spoke to him, he was asking how long he’d have to bear it. He stopped for a few seconds and then said that he supposed it was nothing compared to the cross Jesus bore. Now, you have to know my father to realize how powerful that statement was. Though I shouldn’t be, I’m always amazed by God’s goodness.
